costumes is a good excuse, as far as I am concerned…. wearing them out of the house, that’s another thing entirely!  I derive most of the joy of costume parties from creating my ensemble and getting ready to go out (aka… um… staying home).  A few weeks back on such occasion presented itself to me, a ball of supposedly epic proportions. Knowing that I was about to start shooting this hat project gave me yet a second excuse, the excuse to be as extravagant as I desired with the preposterous</span><span> enormity of my headdress creations!  I was feeling an ethereal woodland creature vibe when I went supply shopping and somehow ended up crafting two hoop skirts and giant branchy, flowery, sequined horns, one of which I fondly refer to as “The Eternal Vagina”… you guess which one!  When I put out a casting for two lovely ladies, it was as though fate was on my side and the beautiful Amanda Harris and Pia Kaamos were among the first to reply.  I was excited that their features complimented each other and immediately scheduled a time for them to come to the studio and get dolled up with the assistance of my most favorite makeup artist, the beaverlicious Alexia Petre, who has generously agreed to do pretty much all the make up for Deck Of Hats.  The complimentary nature of hats and makeup cannot be emphasized enough, a match made in heaven, a head and face equally adorned in sumptuous attire and well blended contouring is a true visual delight.  And just to make things even more awesome, jewelry designer Natasha Bartholomew had sent me some of her beautiful creations for our recent workshop here at Pillar Box Studios, and they paired just perfectly with the outfits.  I was a bit intimidated shooting these beautiful experienced models, but they were super sweet and encouraging.  They even let me take their picture.  haha.
